Clinical Phase Outline

Clinical clerkship shall mean a supervised educational experience, which is part of the clinical component of the medical education program. The clerkship will take place in a teaching hospital acceptable to the University.

BASIC REQUIRED CORE CLERKSHIPS (66 weeks)

● Internal Medicine (12 weeks)
● Obstetrics & Gynecology (8 weeks)
● General Medicine Surgery (8 weeks)
● Surgical sub-specialties (12 weeks) *
● Pediatrics (6 weeks)
● Family Medicine (6 weeks)
● Psychiatry (6 weeks)
● Radiology (4 weeks)
● Clinical Pathology (4 weeks)

* Surgical sub-specialties must include a minimum of three (3) or a maximum of five (5) from the following surgical electives:

● Orthopedic Surgery
● Pediatric Surgery
● Plastic Surgery
● Thoracic Surgery
● Vascular Surgery
● Urology

ELECTIVES: (14 weeks)

Electives must be drawn from the following list and must meet these three criteria:
● Student must complete a minimum of four (4) different electives before he or she can graduate.
● The electives must be a minimum of three (3) weeks in duration
● The electives should NOT exceed more than six (6) weeks.

● Internal Medicine:

4. Gastroenterology
5. Hematology
6. Infectious Diseases
7. I.C.U./Critical Care
8. Neurology
9. Oncology
10. Pulmonary Medicine
11. Rheumatology
● Obstetrics
● Ophthalmology
● Otorhinolaryngology
● Occupational Medicine
● Orthopedic Surgery
● Pathology
● Pediatrics
● Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine
● Psychiatry
● Surgery
● Surgical electives e.g. Anesthesiology, E.R., Trauma, etc.
* Students are not permitted to do any rotation that is less than three (3) weeks in duration.
